Window cleaning: the right care for wooden windows - with these professional tips, windows and frames shine again in new splendour

Spring in sight! People everywhere are enjoying the warm rays of the sun. However, when looking through the windows, they often reveal that the rainy spring has left its mark. But how are wooden windows actually properly cared for?

Windows with noble wooden surfaces are real masterpieces. To maintain the value of these exclusive windows in the long term, proper care is particularly important. When people think of cleaning windows, they usually only think of the glass surfaces. But thorough cleaning of a complete window involves many steps. Wooden window frames should be cleaned at least once a year with a damp cloth and commercially available soft soap - from the inside and outside to the rebate area. This preserves the natural corrosion protection of the wooden surfaces. Silicone seals can be cleaned of dust with a lint-free cloth or disposable paper under gentle pressure. Rubber seals remain supple if they are treated with a rubber care stick - preferably before winter. Fittings should be cleaned thoroughly once a year. Moving parts also need acid- and resin-free lubricants to prevent wear through abrasion. Profile cylinders in lockable window doors become smooth-running again if they are treated with graphite. Under no circumstances should oil or grease be used here! Commercially available, neutral glass cleaners and plenty of water are ideal for cleaning the glass surfaces of wooden windows without leaving streaks. Depending on the degree of soiling, several cleaning passes may be necessary until all streaks and smears have disappeared. Under no circumstances should sharp-edged tools or scouring agents be used! They may leave ugly scratches in the precious frames. Solvent-based cleaners such as petrol, nitro thinner or acetone are also taboo. With these tips, the high-quality appearance of UNILUX wooden windows will be preserved for a long time. More information is available at www.unilux.de.
